"We are a happy couple…
We have become a single whole, we have one soul for two, but we have different blood groups. And that's what makes all the difference now…
Eduard Petrichenko has a tumour of liver ducts, cholangiocellular carcinoma, and now he needs a liver transplantation. A lot of time was lost: first half a year to diagnose, then an operation to remove the gall-bladder, when the doctors started suspecting the tumour, then the drainage of the right liver duct and duodenum, a month later – one more drainage. And no results. They had big hopes for hepatectomy, for which they had to travel to Kiiv, but there were no places in the clinic, and the head physician advised them to lower the bilirubin rate. You still have some time to do it.
They spent another three months of telephone consulting and then heard the verdict – also by phone. "He is dieing. Metastases everywhere – you have to be brave".
That's how we found ourselves overboard – a years' treatment finished all the money we had collected by then.
However with friends' help we gathered money for diagnostics in Eurolab medical laboratory in Kiiv, and took another trip there.
They couldn't give us a 100% true diagnosis, but after hearing our tale, suggested an option of "the second opinion" – a consultation of a foreign doctor. Germany turned out to be too expensive, Singapore was cheaper and they promised that the quality would be just as good. The service is free of charge, as "Eurolab" are official representatives of the Pakway Group Health Care. A week later we were suggested to pass an examination, and depending on the results – medical treatment, which primarily would cost us about 15,000 euros
Again, we started collecting money – first foundations (they all turned us down), then letter to different organizations, to the President of the Ukraine, even a TV report, but it didn't bring much money. At the end, an anonymous donator transferred the necessary amount of money – we do not even know his name, but we are infinitely grateful to him for this chance for salvation.
This money has almost come to an end – we have kept all the receipts. The diagnostics is over: there are no metastases, the biopsy proved the cholangiocellular carcinoma, its too late to do the resection. The tumour is too big and it will be impossible to suture the ducts. The only thing to do is transplantation. The price is 120,000 euros…
Right now we are doing everything possible to collect the necessary money (we have collected 4000 dollars so far). Eduard is passing chemotherapy in order not to allow the dissemination of the tumour: we are trying to buy time, which we are so short of. There are three tubes in Eduard's abdominal cavity, and because of that the ducts get infected all the time. He is only alive thanks to the antibiotics, otherwise his temperature rises up to 40C. Now there is also a tube in his clavicular artery, through which he gets injections of chemicals. A three-week course of treatment will be over on Monday, and we have just enough money for the next one
This is how we stopped belonging to the space and time of the ordinary people. We had to move to another city, not by our own accord, but dictated by the malignant growth. We are on the other side of the battlefield, and the rules of the war change to quickly. We are in the world, where the word "cancer" howls like a siren of the ambulance car, where the phrase "to make plans" is the worst sarcasm, and breathing is the most important and difficult thing to do. And that's what Eduard is trying to do, and I'm trying to help him as best as I can…
We go through all the medical tests, and get used to the fact that one minute is a lot of time – 60 seconds of light! Sometimes we count them together aloud, looking into each other's eyes to remember… and to make the next step together! It's not that easy – passing the distance from 0 to 120,000 euros!
It so happened that Eduard is a citizen of the country, where the level of the medical support is not very high, transplantations are not very frequent, and only those people who have relatives, ready to donate and medically suitable for the transplantation, can count on it according to the laws. It’s the country, where people's mentality doesn't allow them wait for an organ from a dead person.
Edic is young, he is becoming 33 in October, but in this case, just like in ballet, the older a person is, the less chances he has. He can only hope for sympathy and help.
I guess, people feel sympathy when they are one-to-one with their hearts. When everything logical, rational, sensible becomes not so important. That's probably why we get help not from the government but from simple people, people like us. We are open to them with our desperation and our hopes.
This is our story.
We are sincerely grateful to all those who helped and will help us! "
Now Eduard is in a clinic in Singapore. To prevent dissemination of tumor he gets courses of chemotherapy, and we are running out of money to pay for it. The fact that Eduard needs urgent transplantation is evident. His life costs 120,000 euros. The clinic will present the full invoice for the treatment in a couple of days. Eduard and Inna will not manage it on their own, they need our help just as much as they need the transplantation. We believe, that you will help them when you see how much they love each other, how Inna's eye shine when she talks about her husband
And we turn to you to ask for your help.
The story of two loving hearts, news from the clinic and detailed information on how we can help them can be found on Eduards website. |
